Ian Saines, Chief Executive, Funds Management
Ian Saines is the Chief Executive of Challenger’s Funds Management business which includes Challenger Investment Partners and Fidante Partners. Ian joined Challenger in March 2015 from the Commonwealth Bank where he was Group Executive of the Institutional Banking and Markets division. In this capacity, he was a member of the Group’s Executive Committee and reported directly to the Chief Executive. Ian has over 35 years of financial services experience having commenced with the Reserve Bank of Australia and worked for institutions including Bankers Trust Australia and Zurich Capital Markets.
Victor Rodriguez, Head of Fixed Income
Victor joined Challenger in April 2017 as Head of Fixed Income. Prior to his appointment, he was Head of Asia Pacific Fixed Income at Aberdeen Asset Management based in Singapore from 2014 to 2017. There he led a team of more than 30 investment professionals across the region including Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Australia. Before locating to Singapore, Victor led the Aberdeen Fixed Income business in Australia. Prior to this, Victor worked for over 13 years at Credit Suisse Asset Management in Australia, where he was the Deputy Head of Fixed Income for three years up to 2009. Victor holds a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from FINSIA.
Trent Alston, Head of Real Estate
Trent Alston joined Challenger in February 2006 and is Head of Real Estate, responsible for Challenger’s A$10.1 billion* global real estate funds management and investment strategy. Prior to joining Challenger, Trent spent seven years at Colonial First State, most recently in the role of General Manager, Wholesale Funds in the property division and 13 years at Lend Lease in a range of roles in Australia and the UK.
John Burke, Co-Head of Investment Solutions
John Burke joined Challenger in September 2015. Previously he was a Director at Deutsche Bank Australia providing derivative solutions to superannuation and insurance clients. Prior to this John worked for AllianceBernstein as a Senior Portfolio Manager covering Asia and Australia/NZ. John was also a Principal with Mercer Investment Consulting in London for 10 years where he consulted to clients on asset allocation and liability modelling. John is a CFA charterholder and studied at St Andrews University in Scotland where he completed a joint Master’s Degree in Economics and Modern History.
Josh Heller, Co-Head of Investment Solutions
Josh Heller joined Challenger in September 2015. Previously he was a Director at Deutsche Bank Australia providing derivative solutions to superannuation and insurance clients. Before moving to Australia Josh ran a cross-asset derivatives trading desk at Morgan Stanley in New York. Josh has 13 years of experience advising some of the largest pension, insurance and corporate clients in the US, Europe and Australia on risk management. Josh holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce with specialisation in Derivatives from Queen’s University in Canada.
